New Discoveries and Advances in Technology Have Increased Natural Gas Proved Reserves Over Time
As technology improves, the oil and gas industry also evolves. As we’ve learned in our Energy and Sustainability class, researchers and scientists develop more efficient methods for recovering fuels in ever more challenging environments. The Potential Gas Committee (PGC) attributes the rapid increase in natural gas resources to the advent of hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling of shale rock – with shale gas representing “45% of the estimated 100-year supply of U.S. recoverable natural gas.” 2
